Who We Are

Double Up Food Bucks Alabama seeks to increase the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables by low-income consumers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn University launched Double Up Food Bucks Alabama to offer fruit and vegetable incentives at participating retailers throughout Alabama.

For every dollar of SNAP benefits a participant uses to purchase a fresh fruit or vegetable, Double Up Food Bucks Alabama provides a dollar incentive as a retailer-specific coupon or token to redeem for purchase of a fresh fruit or vegetable.

 What do I do? 

  1. Go to the information booth at the market. 
  2. Tell the staff how much SNAP/EBT you want to use. 
  3. Swipe your SNAP/EBT card. 
  4. Receive SNAP/EBT tokens and DUFB AL tokens to use at the market. 
  5. Use the tokens with farmers to buy food. 

How Double Up works: 

  • You get $1 in Double Up Food Bucks for every $1 you use with SNAP/EBT. 
  • Get up to $40 in Double Up tokens per visit. 
  • Double Up tokens can be used for fresh fruits and vegetables only. 
  • SNAP tokens can be used for any SNAP-eligible food. 
  • Unused tokens can be saved for another week.

What do I do? 

  1. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables using SNAP/EBT. 
  2. The register prints a DUFB AL coupon. 
  3. Use the coupon at another visit to get more fresh fruits and vegetables.

How Double Up works: 

  • Get $1 coupon for every $1 spent on fruits and vegetables. 
  • Get up to $20 in Double Up Coupons per visit. 
  • Use the coupon later to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables. 
  • Coupons expire after 3 months. 
  • Coupons cannot be refunded. 
  • The is no limit on how many coupons you can redeem.

What do I do? 

  1. Order a fruit and vegetable box online from the farm. 
  2. Pay using your SNAP/EBT card. 
  3. The farm delivers the box to your home. 

How Double Up works: 

  • You get 50% off the price of the produce box.

  2. Pay with your SNAP/EBT card. 
  3. Pick up your box at the pickup location.

  • You get 50% off the price of the produce box.
